Ballari (or Bellary) is a historical city, known for the medieval fort high on a hill overlooking the city. The city of 410,000 (2011) is now a steel hub of South India.

Bellary, officially Ballari, in the eponymous Bellary district, is a major city in the state of Karnataka, India. It is 306 km (190 mi) from the state capital of Bangalore and 351 km (218 mi) from Hyderabad. Bellary has an urban population of 423,424 and a metro population of 477,537 making it one of the most populous cities in Karnataka. It has 5 taluks and 104 villages. Kalyana Karnataka is composed of six districts Bellary is one among them. Bellary was a part of the first Indian commercial flight from Karachi to Madras on 15 October 1932 by JRD Tata.
