Welcome to Butare!
Huye is the third city of Rwanda, located in the south. It was formerly known as Butare and many maps and official documents still refer to Butare. Huye is the capital of the Huye district, which was again the Butare district prior to its dissolution in 2006. It is said to have about 80,000 inhabitants. It is famous for hosting the National University, and the National Museum (unique in Africa), and being near to Nyanza, where the palace of the former king (the so-called mwami) is.
Butare, also known as Huye, is a city (population: 50,220 inhabitants in 2012) in the Southern Province of Rwanda and the capital of the Huye district. It is the fourth largest town in Rwanda by population.
