Whangārei

Welcome to Whangārei!

Whangarei is the main city of the Northland region, on the North Island of New Zealand. It has a warm semi-tropical climate, with summer daytime temperatures around 24-26°C, regular rainy days year-round, and mild winters that rarely have frosts and are mild enough for the region to be described as "the winterless north". The city's population is 54,000.

Whangārei is the northernmost city in New Zealand and the regional capital of the Northland Region. It is part of the Whangarei District, a local body created in 1989 from the former Whangārei City, Whangārei County, and Hikurangi Town councils, to administer both the city proper and its hinterland. The city population was estimated to be 54,300 in June 2021, an increase from 47,000 in 2001.
